The annual return of the Blue Corn Bourbon unveils a 4-year expression, boasting a potent 60.8% ABV and a finishing touch in Washington Cabernet and California Grenache puncheons. Its vibrant rustic scent evokes images of an oiled leather sofa, antique china cabinet, and candied pecans, accented by hints of black cherry ice cream and strawberry jam on scones, culminating in the aroma of cola adorned with orange peel.
As for the taste, the palate offers a long and intricate journey. It commences with delicate whispers of gardenia amidst a tapestry of cocktail cherry richness, gradually unfolding into the warmth of spiced pear cobbler, and concluding with a crescendo of allspice, macerated berries, and the indulgence of mint chocolate.

Our 100% Rye Mashbill began with Elbon Rye from Northwest Texas accompanied by crystal, chocolate and roasted rye. Driven by constant curiosity, we distilled our Rye in our copper pot stills, bringing new subtlety and perspective to our approach.

Round and full of flavor, our rum is made from a collection of the finest molasses available. As always, we bring out the best in our ingredients through traditional double distillation in hand-built copper pot stills. The result of our unique cooperage program, consisting of a variety of oak species and multiple toast profiles, is a bold and robust rum with rich deep fruit flavors, with viscous and warm notes of vanilla and caramel. This is a rum to excite both the rum purist and the committed whisky drinker.

Single Malt whisky has always been the drive and passion behind Balcones. Over the years we have been inspired by and drawn to other spirit traditions, including the classic American spirit: Rum.  After a few small batches of our Texas Rum, we refilled the same casks with select Texas Single Malt, marrying two of our favorite things together to create a unique Texas Whisky. As a symbol of our offering to the makers who came before us and whose inspiration roused us to seek a future all our own, Cataleja Texas Single Malt is one of the most complex and unique whiskies in our portfolio. The Single Malt made with 100% Golden Promise Malted Barley was first aged in refill casks, then in a variety of decommissioned Sherry Solera puncheons: Moscatel, Amontillado Dulce, Oloroso, & Palo Cortado. The word Cataleja is a loose translation of the English word spyglass. As we chart our course, we honor our elders by viewing the horizon through their lens, learning the lessons we need to chart our own course and ensuring the future of Texas whiskies and American Single Malts.

TASTING NOTES

ON THE NOSE, Cataleja is bright yet earthy with notes of brandied figs dusted with smoked paprika that build to sautéed apricots served on an olive wood spoon. Deeper breaths reveal sophisticated savory notes of sobrasada garnished with orange zest, mossy cherry cavendish, and venison jerky in browned butter.

ON THE PALATE, it is sticky with brooding notes of medjool dates stuffed with cashew butter, cacao nib, and ground clove which transitions to vibrant notes of eucalyptus oil and burnt lemon peel. Pineapple kebabs on matchstick and cinnamon skewers fade to a bittersweet finish of licor de hierbas and affogato made with cherry ice cream.

At barrel proof, True Blue Cask Strength preserves the bold flavors and aromas straight from our premium barrels. Select casks yield a power expression of our blue corn whisky that opens with deep notes of brown sugar, roasted nuts and buttered toast, while lingering honeysuckle and citrus accents usher in a long finish with hints of cinnamon.
