A careful selection of fine white wines are used to ensure the perfect balance for Noilly Prat Rouge. Half of the wines are aged in oak casks in the Chai St Louis for three months, to give them more structure. The remaining wines used are fresher and lighter, as they are rested at the same time in large vats. A very special process is used to extract the bitter sweet and spicy flavours of the aromatic herbs and spices. For one hour every day, over a three weeks period, fine white wine is circulated through the herbs and spices. This continuous process allows the wine over time to absorb the wonderful flavours and aromas of the herbs and spices.

An aromatic blend of 29 herbs and spices sourced from all over the world are used to gently infuse the wines and create the unique bouquet and wonderful taste of Noilly Prat Rouge.

Beautifully crafted by the Mediterranean Sea, in the South of France, Noilly Prat is the Original French Vermouth since 1813. Noilly Prat is still produced today in the little port of Marseillan, where 4 different variants are made, each of them benefitting from its own unique recipe and process. Noilly Prat reflects the art de vivre from the South of France.

This award winning "puro" style Peruvian Pisco is the finest expression of the "macho grape," called quebranta. Caravedo Puro Quebranta is sustainably harvested and hand-crafted at the oldest distillery in the Americas, Destilería La Caravedo, Est. 1684.

Method of Production: Single-distilled to 40% ABV (80 proof) requiring approximately 3 kilos (7 lbs.) of quebranta grapes to produce one 750ml bottle. Distilled from 100% fully fermented grape juice (pure wine--no pomace) and rested a minimum of six months with no additives of any kind: no color, no water, no sugar, no wood flavoring. Distilled through alambique copper pot stills.

A scarlet sparkler that’s unexpectedly refreshing with notes of bright cherry, zingy citrus and fresh apples with a crisp finish.

The impact is intense, complex and fruity. The bouquet initially deliver the intense notes of mature fruit, such as cherries, plums and small black berries that are typical of Sangiovese. Then it fades into hints of spices, mint, sweet tobacco and refined balsamic notes on the finish. The notes typical of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are perfectly integrated with the Sangiovese.

Tasting profile: At the palate it is full-bodied and harmonious and characterized by the finesse of its silky tannins. The taste is exalted by a remarkable pleasantness and freshness and a texture in which each varietal adds its own distinctive trait. The finish is incredibly persistent, with an aftertaste of black berry fruit and cocoa.

In 1897, Frederick Durant and Willis and Joseph Booth formed a partnership and took over the Oakville Mercantile & General Store at the Oakville Crossroads. By 1904, the sale of the store and the Victorian home was finalized and Durant and Joseph Booth moved in. Over the next several years, they transformed the destination into a grocery store for the Napa Valley. Today, the historic family home stands at the gateway of one of the unsurpassed wine regions of the world and the home is one of the finest homes from the era.

THE VINTAGE
2020 kicked off with ideal growing conditions. Mild temperatures led to evenly developed clusters and an early budbreak was followed by a warm to hot summer. Low winter rains resulted in smaller berries with concentrated flavors. Harvest started in early August and all things pointed to normal yields and exceptional fruit quality.

WINEMAKER’S NOTES
Harvested in the cool morning hours from valley floor vineyards across Napa Valley, the grapes were hand sorted and underwent extended maceration before aging in a combination of bourbon and American oak barrels. Bourbon barrels have a heavier toast which imparts a light smoky note on the nose and highlights the characteristics that are synonymous with the spirit. The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep, dark red in the glass and opens with aromas dark cherry and plum that spring from the glass. This is a full-bodied wine, filled with flavors of blackberry, cherry, caramel and spice. Aged in Bourbon barrels, flavors of brown sugar, sweet vanilla, baking spice and hints of toasted oak are textured throughout the palate. Balanced with fine-grained tannins, the finish is long and smooth.

Our Winery Exclusive wines allow us to create small lot offerings each vintage from unique vineyards where we can highlight both the varietal and the terroir of the region. These limited release wines are available only to guests of the winery and our wine club members, and often result in just a few barrels each vintage.

Tasting Notes

The Sterling Vineyards Napa Valley Red Blend wine is a beautiful, crushed velvet red color in the glass. The pronounced nose gives bright aromas of fresh blackberry, raspberry jam and dark violet. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine is juicy, plush and soft. The wine offers complex layers of flavor with ripe currants, baked black cherry pie alongside spiced tea and sweet vanillin notes. The wine is beautifully structured with a lush texture, good body and well-integrated tannins.

Vintage

The relatively even 2016 growing season followed welcome winter rains that eased California’s ongoing drought and gave vines plenty of moisture to pull from throughout the season. With no frost during bloom nor heat spikes during the summer, harvest was received with relative ease. The ripening season enjoyed cooler than average daytime highs with plenty of sunshine so fruit had lengthy hangtime and developed very good color and flavor concentration. The region’s typical area cold nights enabled the fruit to maintain excellent acidity.

Made from gently pressed, very ripe, raisin-like grapes, this sweet Malbec comes from the vineyards that surround the winery, at 980 m.a.s.l. (3,215 ft.). It displays an interesting array of aromas: dark berries, tobacco, cloves and cinnamon. I recommend pairing it with cakes, Malbec poached pears and desserts with red berries or semisweet chocolate.

Dazzling straw-gold in color, the wine serves up superrich aromas of ripe pineapple, vanilla bean, raw coconut, and honeyed lemon. The entry is supremely lush with complex flavors of roasted fig, apricot, green apple, and orchard fruit. Further, the wine's energetic profile leads to stunning mineral notes, flint, exotic spice, and lemongrass framed in roasted marshmallow. The abundant richness remains through the finish with clarity and length, while supported with a youthful brightness.

TASTING NOTES

Le Blanc offers a mineral freshness and pear aromas from Chardonnay. Tropical notes are followed by Granny Smith apple, spicy citrus and white flower notes.

PEAR: Reffreshing and gourmet, notes of pear bring and slightly acidic melting touch. This deliciously juicy fruit gives a refined freshness highlighting all the subtleties of the different French Bloom Le Blanc aromas.

WHITE FLOWERS: Powerful and luminous, the accents of white flowers invite themselves into the heart of French Bloom Le Blanc like a caress. The discreet bouquet of white petals exalts the entire aromatic range with an assertive, powdery character.

SPICY CITRUS: Biting and refreshing, notes of spicy citrus is present bringing with it full-bodied zesty aromas to the floral bouquet of French Bloom Le Blanc.

COMPOSITION

A blend of de-alcoholized organic French Chardonnay wine, organic grape juice and natural flavors such as lemon.

Our 2017 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.6% Merlot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc, 0.3% Petit Verdot and 0.1% Malbec. In early 2018, the final blend was transferred to American oak barrels from our cooperage, The Oak, where it aged for 24 months. Half the barrels for our 2017 Alexander Valley vintage were new, providing a subtle, layered expression of bay leaf, coconut and vanilla to our wines. Blending before barrel aging—a signature of our winemaking style—allows blends to be based on the inherent qualities of their vineyard components before oak influence. Vintage to vintage, the resulting Cabernets emerge integrated and ready to drink upon release. 

The 2017 J. Lohr Cuvée POM is effusive with aromas of blueberry, marionberry, lilac, and cocoa powder. Vibrant acidity and persistent fresh berry notes resonate on the palate, leaving an angular structure sure to have lengthy cellar potential. With Paso Robles Merlot at its core, this lush wine recalls many of the best wines of Pomerol.

VINTAGE

Our J. Lohr Paso Robles vineyards emerged from a 5-year drought with remarkable quality in the 2017 vintage. The restorative rainfall exceeded the 20-year average by more than 25% in the appellation. Budbreak occurred in our Merlot block 5 at the Creston Vineyard during the first week of April. Bloom was also slightly delayed as we flowered at the end of the third week of May. An extreme heat event occurred in early September, which brought temperatures as high as 115 degrees along the California’s coast. Our Merlot crop was several weeks away from harvest and came through the heat spike unharmed. In this vintage we saw the highest level of flavor ripeness since the string of three great vintages from ‘12 to ‘14.

CUVÉE POM

Inspiration for J. Lohr Cuvée POM comes from the Grand Cru wines of Pomerol on Bordeaux’s famed Right Bank. These legendary wines are traditionally composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with sparse additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. At J. Lohr, our winemaking team is given the freedom to emulate these great wines through the prism of our world-class Paso Robles fruit.

150 years ago, brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer left Germany to found a winery and distillery in Napa. Like her, the wine has strong layers, structured with velvety tannins, expressing an intellectual depth which invites a longer conversation.
