This Chivas Extra 13 blended Scotch whisky selectively matured* in Oloroso Sherry Casks is inspired by the Chivas brothers’ 13 King Street Emporium in Aberdeen, where they imported different spirits, exotic spices, and luxury food items from across the globe. Imparting its own unique combination of characteristics onto the Chivas blend, this finish brings new and contrasting flavour notes to the spirit for the first time.

THE BLEND

Discover new flavours with Chivas Extra 13 Oloroso Sherry Cask. Selectively ageing classic Chivas whisky for 13 years in Oloroso sherry casks results in an incomparable taste experience. The end result is marvellously rich, as sherry casks draw out the full-bodied flavours of our whisky. 

After being selectively matured in the Oloroso sherry casks, the sweet and rich notes of our Scotch blend are magnified – delivering intense flavours with every sip.

TASTING NOTES

CASK FINISH: A portion of this whisky is selectively matured in Oloroso sherry casks for a rich finish.

NOSE: Vanilla caramel notes appear on the nose.

PALATE: Sweet ripe pears in syrup, cinnamon sweets and crisp almonds.

This Ledaig 1996 Vintage Single Malt Scotch Whisky is some of the first spirit distilled when peated single malt production commenced at Tobermory Distillery in 1996. Peat-dried malted barley is married with naturally peat infused water from the distillery's private water source, a dark aromatic lochan, high in the mountains above the village of Tobermory, ensuring an intense smoky flavorsome character. Matured in superior Oloroso sherry casks the result is a wonderfully peated single malt, with apple and a hint of mint with citrus aromas. These disappear into the dark as the peaty embers glow into a smoky finale.

Distilled and filled into cask in the summer of 1998, this delicious Ledaig was matured for almost 6 yearsbefore being transferred to Oloroso Sherry casksin the summer of 2004for a further 13 years.

Detailed Description

Nectar D'Or is probably a reference to the golden nectar that was previously held in the casks used to finish the whisky. This is a sauternes finished single malt from the Glenmorangie distillery, a fruity, vinous release from the Highland distillery.

Nose: Full of dessert wines, a little fruitiness with a good barley sweetness. A mix of honey and apricot skins.

Palate: Notes of desert wine, with cereal notes and barley. A touch of malty spice and berry fruits.

Finish:Long with a good helping of oak. More apricot skins and dessert wines linger.

Distillery Information

The Glenmorangie distillery was established in 1843, on the Dornoch Firth by brothers William and John Matheson. The site originally held a farm distillery under the name Morangie. There is evidence that distillation was carried out at this site during the early 18th century. Production began in November of 1849. During the latter part of the 19th century Glenmorangie began overseas exportation and destinations included Europe and the United States.

In 1815, the Johnston brothers leased 1,000 acres on Islay to raise cattle. They grew barley for feed but ended up distilling surplus grains into whisky. Laphroaig was born. For over a century, the distillery remained family-owned. In 1954, Ian Hunter bequeathed it to Bessie Williamson, who guarded its secrets. Laphroaig Single Malt is a robust, intensely flavored whisky made from Islay peat. Malted and smoked on the island, it's fermented and twice-distilled in unique copper-pot stills. Laphroaig Lore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, an homage to past distillery managers, is aged in a variety of casks. This crafting process results in a smoky, oceanic aroma with a palate rich in bitter chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, and roasted chestnuts, all culminating in a finish graced with malt grain, chocolate chip cookies, tropical fruit, and the unmistakable presence of peat. Longrow, crafted at Springbank Distillery, undergoes double distillation and is heavily peated, resulting in a distinctive Campbeltown smokiness. The malt is dried with peat for up to 48 hours.

This 21-year-old Longrow pays homage to tradition and exemplifies patience. It has matured for two decades and a year in superior sherry and bourbon casks, allowing the whisky to develop its profound and alluring smokiness. About the Brand

Behind every great brand is a great story. Perhaps that’s the most important lesson we have learned from my many years creating new drinks. We can certainly think of no better story or figurehead for a Scotch Whisky than my ancestor, Mr. Gladstone, and his Axes.

Mr. Gladstone signed the spirits act of 1860 allowing the blending of scotch for the first time – essentially creating the scotch whisky industry that we know today. Known as “THE GRAND OLD MAN” his passion and pastime were felling trees with his trusty collection of axes - people from around the country would come to watch him chopping trees.

Through his progressive ideology, he was instrumental in driving out corruption and passing new laws for the people.

Every batch of Gladstone Axe American Oak is made from 100% malted barley and aged in American oak barrels that were previously used for bourbon production. Aging our scotch whisky in ex-bourbon barrels imparts mellow sweet notes to the blend of malt whiskies that compose this one-of-a-kind scotch. Gladstone Axe American Oak is made from a selection of malt whiskies from 14 different Highland and Islay malt distilleries.

The sixth in Wolfburn’s small-batch series, Batch 318 has been crafted from a combination of lightly-peated spirit, matured for a little over seven years in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts, and spirit matured for seven years in first-fill Bourbon barrels. These casks produced a sweet, rounded, sumptuous whisky with a peerless depth of flavour.

Founded in 1836 on the Recherlich Farm in Speyside, Scotland, Glenfarclas Distillery has a storied history. Originally established by Robert Hay, a tenant farmer, it later passed to John Grant, a cattle breeder, and was rescued from bankruptcy by the Grant Brothers. Today, George S. Grant, the sixth generation, manages this independent distillery.

Glenfarclas Single Malt Scotch Whisky, made from freshly harvested barley and Ben Rinnes Mountain spring water, embraces tradition with direct-heated copper-pot stills. Glenfarclas 105, a cask-strength expression, originated in 1968 as a Christmas gift. This classic whisky, rated 95 points by Wine Enthusiast, offers an aroma of apples, pears, and dark coffee. With water, it reveals rich spices, oak, and sherry on the palate, concluding with a long, smooth finish and a lingering smoky flavor. Recognized for its almost bourbon-like beauty, Glenfarclas 105 remains a "Best Bang For Your Buck" according to Malt Maniacs.

With a history steeped in expertise, Orphan Barrel has meticulously selected and matured this whisky for 14 years, allowing its flavors to mature and evolve. The name "Castle's Curse" alludes to the mysterious and enchanting journey the whisky has undertaken, evoking the imagery of hidden castles and ancient tales.

THE BENROMACH STORY

We are a traditional Speyside distillery owned by a family of whisky-lovers intent on making single malt the right way with true character. We keep things simple. A handful of distillers relying entirely on our expertise and senses to make the finest handmade whisky; Speyside single malt matured exclusively in first-fill casks, with a subtly smoky character. It takes just four ingredients – barley, water, yeast, and a human touch. All of our casks are hand-filled, individually weighed, stenciled by hand, and stowed in our traditional dunnage warehouses. Why? Because at Benromach we believe making whisky by hand guarantees genuine character.

OUR HISTORY

Our family, the Urquharts of Elgin, have always been passionate about whisky. Our ancestor John began laying down casks of single malt at different distilleries in 1915, when everyone else was blending their whiskies. It was the realization of a long-held dream when we acquired Benromach Distillery in 1993. Five years of meticulous refitting of the distillery followed before HRH Prince Charles officially reopened our doors in 1998. Time well spent creating a style of single malt reminiscent of the days before commercial maltings. A time when Speyside distilleries malted their own barley using peat to fuel the fires and impart a distinctive touch of smoke to their whiskies. The resurrection of Benromach Distillery signaled the rediscovery of a lost style of Speyside single malt.

Over the years our Master Blenders have maintained the classic taste created in the 19th century by the pioneers of blended Scotch whisky, founders John and James Chivas.

TASTING NOTES

CASK FINISH: A variety of casks are used for maturation of the 12-year-old Scotch whiskies that make up this blend, leading to a greater depth and character.

NOSE: An aromatic infusion of wild herbs, heather, honey and orchard fruits.

PALATE: Round and creamy with a full, rich taste of honey and ripe pears alongside vanilla, hazelnut and butterscotch notes.

FINISH: Rich and lingering.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich has an exceptional single malt from the 'ghost' distillery of Pittyvaich at its heart. Pittyvaich closed its doors in 1993 after just 18 years of life. Though short in life, Pittyvaich left a distinct and growing legacy. This hidden gem is now gently spoken about the world over for its unique Speyside style.

Sweet fruit notes if fresh apple gather with the distinct autumnal flavours of Pittyvaich, beautifully balanced with the delicate subtle sweetness of honeycomb and soft wood from the 'ghost ' whiskies of Port Dundas and Carsebridge. Other very rare whiskies from a quartet of Speyside distilleries including Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore and Strathmill alongside the Highland whisky of Royal Lochnagar, bring aromas of dark fruit and berries before easing into gentle butterscotch, stewing orchard fruits and a dash of cinnamon, all combining to create an exploration of this rarely seen 'ghost' whisky. In total this special blend consists of whisky from Pittyvaich and 7 other rare whiskies.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare releases are a series of limited editions that explore the rich flavours and distinctive distillery character of selected whiskies from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves. Each release offer a fleeting opportunity to savour the depth of character of whiskies from 'ghost' distilleries that have long since closed, but whose spirit still lives on in the precious liquid captured in every bottle.

Usquaebach (Oos: Ke: Bah) is the name derived from the ancient Gaelic phrase, meaning water of life. These are the ancient words from which the word whisky is derived. A pleasant nose of pears, cooked apple, caramel and white pepper leads to a rich, slightly floral palate with layered notes of caramel, citrus and dried fruit. Hints of spice emerge on the lightly peppery finish.
