This Single Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of our signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice. Like Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake’s signature C43 racing vehicles, trial barrels were tested in the team’s wind tunnel in Switzerland before hitting the track. Select barrels then endured varying levels of G-Forces at the WhistlePig farm and distillery for the finishing touch, accelerating the interaction between the whiskey and the wood, staying true to the physical nature of Formula 1.

One of our oldest whiskeys ever bottled is also the first WhistlePig product finished in Vermont Estate Oak. Harvested right off our farm the wood has more rings than the standard American oak used in whiskey barrels. That gives it more opportunity to impart deeper flavors during maturation. Hitting the bottle at 92-proof, the liquid is assertive and wise beyond its 15 year age statement. And it boasts a score of 97 points from Wine Enthusiast. So we’re clearly not the only ones enamored by this pure expression of Green Mountain goodness.

The Boss Hog X transcends tradition with a double finish inspired by our own land of milk and honey. Each barrel of Straight Rye Whiskey is aged in new American Oak before completing its journey in two unorthodox finishing barrels. The first is seasoned with our own experimental spirit – distilled from rye and whey, infused with aromatic resins from the genera commonly known as Frankincense and Myrrh  – delivering notes of creme brulee, lemongrass and rosemary to the final whiskey. The second and final finish is aged in craft mead casks, offering a mellow, round-bodied finish with hints of red berries and freshly crushed black pepper.

The result – thousands of years’ worth of wonder condensed into a bottle of biblical proportions, righteously rendered at barrel proof.

WhistlePig Double Malt Rye is our oldest Rye, patiently mellowed for 18 years. Before industrial distillation, America’s original farmers would malt a small portion of their grain to start fermentation, the essential step that turns water and rye into glorious whiskey. As a nod to the farmers, Double Malt Rye is crafted from a mash bill of Rye, Malted Rye and Malted Barley. History aside, these grains unite in a show-stopping Rye Whiskey that stretches far and wide across the flavor spectrum. Its base of 79% Rye delivers bold, peppery spice, while 15% Malted Rye adds soft, floral and earthy character. A final 6% of malted barley brings rich, sweet, toasted notes.

It's a blend of 4-year-old rye whiskey and 5-year-old wheat and barley whiskeys that is pleasantly sweet and spicy, as well as wholly unique. The winner also came as a surprise, as it comprised 45% rye, 30% wheat, and 25% barley. "HomeStock is a truly special blend for us, not only due to how it was made but it's the first time were releasing a whiskey that features something other than Rye. Were thrilled that this blend got voted as the winner, it could be a sign of things to come from us in the future as a natural extension of our famed FarmStock range," says WhistlePig CEO Jeff Kozak.

About the Brand

In 2006, a band of dedicated Rye enthusiasts purchased a 500-acre dairy farm in the rolling hills of Vermont's Champlain Valley. Just recently, until his passing the WhistlePig farm had been home to Master Distiller Dave Pickerell. After he graduated from West Point with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Pickerell served in the military for eleven years as a cavalry officer. Later he received a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Louisville, before serving as chairman of the Kentucky Distillers Association and master distiller at Maker's Mark in Loretto, Kentucky for 13 years. "This is what I was meant for," said Pickerell of the whiskey business. After leaving Maker's Mark, Pickerell embarked on a journey to find the perfect rye whiskey. "Rye, in its own essence, is just a brilliant grain... I wanted to do rye because it's America's historical whiskey." During the Revolutionary War, English blockades of American ports prevented the colonists from purchasing molasses used to make rum. As a result, American distillers, including George Washington, started making rye whiskey. This stunning 100% rye is one of the final expressions created by late Master Distiller and whiskey luminary Dave Pickerell. His dream was to create the best aged Rye Whiskey perfect for any rye cocktail. PiggyBack has an intensely powerful, spicy profile, imparted by its time in oak barrels. You can expect complex and smooth notes that shine through, yet don't overpower your drink. An outstanding in any concoction. Aged 6 years and bottled at 96.56 proof (56 is the year Dave Pickerell was born).

This autumn we unveil the latest chapter in The Boss Hog odyssey, a journey through parts previously unknown in the world of whiskey. It begins with some of the oldest Rye on our Farm. Then, a double finish in barrels formerly belonging to Greek fig nectar and scratch made Tentura – a Greek style liqueur inspired by Ancient Patras.

Siren’s Song is the result… an adventure for the ages, befitting its own ode. It beckons you with refrains of supple sweetness and exotic spice. Honoring our five promises for every edition of The Boss Hog, you are guaranteed a stupendous and powerfully complex whiskey; single barrel in origin, bottled at proof and unique from anything you’ve ever before tasted. And for the first time ever, the cask finishes for this particular edition were crafted by our own whiskey makers: Liz Rhoades and Meghan Ireland.

The dynamic duo were inspired by the Muses of Greek Mythology – each of whom is depicted on one of nine bespoke pewter toppers: Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania.
