Clan Denny Islay Whisky
Legend has it that nearly a half century ago, a wealthy Taiwanese businessman walked into the offices of Douglas Laing & Co. and asked Frederick Laing to create a special blended Scotch whisky, and name it MacDennis. While Laing agreed to find a blend of whisky that would suit the businessman's taste, he bottled the whisky behind a "Clan Dennis"label. Over time, the name was shortened to "Clan Denny,"and today, the Clan Denny name adorns some of the finest bottles of Scotch whisky ever produced.
Clan Denny Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from Speyside is a blending, or vatting, of single malt whiskies produced by some of the most prestigious distilleries located in the Speyside region of Scotland. The region is known for its fertile soils and golden barley fields, which result in rich and elegant single malts. In addition, the region's unique microclimate and location along the North Sea shelter it from the Gulf Stream, providing an ideal environment for maturing an opulent and lush whisky.
Clan Denny Speyside Scotch Whisky consists of single malt whiskies sourced from the Macallan, Glenrothes, Glen Grant, Mortlach and Longmorn distilleries, together with two other Speyside single malt whiskies whose origins Laing has kept a closely guarded secret. The whisky has a fresh and fruity aroma, with hints of vanilla and toffee on the palate that complement notes of pears, green fruits and honey. The long, lingering finish has touches of oak and creamy vanilla, and ends with a touch of warmth.
Clan Denny Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from Islay is a vatting of single malt whiskies produced by Ardbeg, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila distilleries, along with two other single malts that remain a secret. Islay's unique climate and geography impart signature characteristics to Scotch distilled and matured on the island. Despite its small size, the island boasts 130 miles of coastline, and the warm Gulf Stream from the Atlantic Ocean provides for cool winters and mild summers. In addition, the island is largely composed of peat, a phenolic compound that emits smoky aromas when burned. The salty winds and peat bogs of Islay result in Scotch that has a signature salinity and is balanced by a touch of smoke.
Clan Denny Blended Malt Scotch Whisky From Islay is slightly darker and more amber than the Speyside whisky, and has an aroma of earthy minerals and peaty smoke. The aroma opens up to notes of sweet cereal, malt, vanilla and salty tang, and leads to a long, smoky finish.
Clan Denny 50 Year Old Scotch Whisky is a single grain whisky that was distilled in 1961 and matured for five decades in a refill hogshead cask (Cask 5557), before it was bottled at cask strength without the use of chill filtration. It has an aroma of thick grape must, figs, almonds and chili spices that lead to complex notes of dried fruits, nutmeg, cinnamon, toffee and exotic spices. Only a handful of bottles of this 50 year old Scotch whisky exist.
