No. 6 brings together the art of whisky making with Lalique exquisite craftsmanship to create a stunning whisky encased in the finest crystal decanter. This rich, complex single malt takes its unique natural color and character from first fill sherry seasoned oak casks from Spain, handcrafted by the master craftsmen of Jerez de la Frontera, the home of sherry. The casks are taken from a single cooperage in order to ensure the infinite quality and character at the heart of this rich single malt. The cooperage exclusively creates Spanish oak casks which, once seasoned with sherry, create the unique flavor of this exquisite whisky. Rich in spice and dried fruit with a layer of heady orange groves, this is an enticing, dark, whisky that delivers classic Macallan character.

COLOUR: Spanish Sunset

NOSE: Raisin, dates and figs dominate whilst sultana and toffee apples add texture and depth. The weight of flavour from the raisins is dark and rich with great viscosity. Dry ginger and soft cinnamon hint at the edges the edges. Dark chocolate is majestic, vanilla sweetness lingers in the background.

PALATE: Heavy and sumptuous. A rich fruit cake of raisin, dates and figs, apples, sultanas, orange then ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and hints of clove. Oak notes are like velvet, soft and chic.

FINISH: Silky smooth with a long and full finish.

The Macallan Home Collection, The Distillery celebrates our time-honoured traditions and community spirit – both encapsulated at The Macallan Distillery and around the world.

Inspired by the natural beauty of The Macallan’s 485-acre Estate, artist and The Macallan employee Colin Rizza has beautifully depicted the Distillery in watercolour. Colin and his family have deep ties to the Distillery, having worked here for over three decades. This exceptional expression with notes of dark cherries and Medjool date has an initial sweetness on the palate, with a nostalgic medley of vanilla, apple and nutmeg. The resplendent red walnut hue is attributed to more than a quarter of a century of maturation in a first fill sherry seasoned European oak butt cask. A single cask of The Macallan Fine & Rare was filled on the 20th of January 1997 and bottled over 26 years later. The largest assembly of vintage-dated, single malt whiskies in the world, this Collection is a celebration of place and moment in time, creating a rare opportunity to explore those that have come before us.

1997 THE YEAR THAT WAS
In the annals of Hollywood history, 1997 stands out as a momentous year, marked by record-breaking films and iconic franchises gracing the silver screen. As Hollywood became an adored American export, 1997 marked a historic milestone for The Macallan, with international sales surpassing domestic for the first time, prominently led by the thriving U.S. market. In homage to this transformative year, The Macallan proudly presents its 1997 Fine & Rare release, capturing the essence of that landmark year.

THE EXPERIENCE

COLOUR: Resplendent red walnut

NOSE: Rich fruit aromas of dark cherries, Medjool dates and raisins are on the nose, accompanied by warming cinnamon, sticky toffee pudding and aged oak.

PALATE: An initial sweetness on the palate with a nostalgic medley of vanilla, apple and nutmeg gives way to an intense, rich oak with a depth of spice notes, warming aniseed and clove.

FINISH: Long and luxurious with a gentle caress of spices, sweetness and antique oak.

The Macallan Reflexion

BOLD IN COLOR AND FLAVOR

Reflexion is a complex single malt that has been aged in a combination of smaller hogshead casks and first-fill sherry seasoned casks made from both Spanish and American oak. This unique maturation process results in a whisky with a deep color and a flavor profile that is rich in floral and vanilla notes, with hints of fresh apples and apricots. The small size of the hogshead casks allows for a greater interaction between the wood and the whisky, resulting in a well-balanced and intricate character.

TASTING NOTES

COLOUR: Blood Orange

NOSE: Fresh zest of orange and citrus fruits. A slight waxy note fades to fresh green apples. Robust notes of chocolate, thick fudge, boiled sweets, aniseed and caramel toffees with subtle white chocolate truffles. Fresh bananas and sweet oak arrives last.

PALATE: Initial light citrus zest with new oak gives way to the succulent sweetness of lemon and orange. Raisin, sultana and apple, with a hint of cinnamon and ginger, are subtle.

FINISH: Boiled sweets add balance to a glimpse of toasted oak to give a medium and soft finish.

The Macallan Sherry Oak expressions are characterized by their rich color and hints of dried fruit and spice, a result of being exclusively aged in 100% sherry-seasoned oak casks. Exclusively aged for a minimum of 12 years in sherry-seasoned oak casks, this marque exudes a beautiful, rich gold hue and an exquisite flavorful finish. The unique attributes of each cask and The Macallan’s unwavering commitment to natural color present a complex challenge of ensuring consistent quality, character and color year after year. To achieve this, thousands of individual casks are sampled to select those that will finally be married together prior to bottling. It is an extremely special new single malt containing rare spirit from a proportion of the barley grown at Easter Elchies estate, which is distilled just once a year over the course of a single week. Created by Whisky Maker Sarah Burgess, The Macallan Estate is a celebration of the single malt's peerless provenance and heritage.

The 485-acre Easter Elchies estate is set within the legendary Speyside region of Scotland, where The Macallan has been creating extraordinary single malts since 1824. Its carefully tended barley fields are located on the banks of the River Spey, overlooked by The Macallan's new award-winning distillery. The Macallan Estate is presented in a striking gift pack featuring a hand cut slate panel representative of the Scottish landscape of its home. Inside, aerial photography showcases the estate's impressive barley fields on the banks of the beautiful River Spey.

In 1820, Alexander Reid began renting the home from Sir Lewis Grant of Grant. Reid was a farmer, and soon after he sowed the fields surrounding the home with barley, Reid established the first licensed distillery on the estate, which he named Macallan after an ancient church that had been destroyed by fire during the 15th century. In the winter when there was little activity on the farm Reid would ferment and distill his excess grains into whisky, which was often drunk straight from the still or sold to travelers passing through the town. Today, the Macallan Estate encompasses 370 acres, 95 of which are devoted to the production of the Macallan Estate's Minstrel barley (a single acre produces about 2.5 tons of barley each year, enough to yield 1,800 bottles of The Macallan). In addition, the distillery contracts with farmers to purchase barley that is low in nitrogen and high in starch, resulting in a rich and oily whisky. After the barley is harvested in late August and early September, it is malted before being mashed in one of The Macallan's two mash tuns, a process that takes between four and eight hours. Then, the barley is fermented with a specially cultured yeast before being distilled twice through The Macallan's copper-pot stills. The copper comprising the stills acts as a catalyst, and enhances the formation of sweet esters while minimizing impurities such as sulphur. The Macallan M Single Malt Scotch Whisky was crafted from a marriage of seven unique casks of Macallan, each of which was personally selected by Macallan's Master Whisky Maker after more than two years of searching through the Macallan's vast cellars of over 195,000 barrels. Each cask (the oldest whisky was distilled in 1940) was previously used to mature Oloroso sherry. As a result, the whisky as a deep copper color, along with an aroma of dried fruits, vanilla, green apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Rich, viscous wood spices dominate the palate, and are complemented by undertones of leather, cedar and violets.

Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the Big 3 single malts in Scotland the other two are Glenfiddich and Glenlivet. Fortunately, Macallan has achieved this scale without sacrificing quality. A change in UK labeling laws aced them out of their Speyside designation. But just because the British Parliament gerrymandered the official boundaries doesnt mean whiskey-lovers have to pay any attention. Macallan single malts are famous for their classic Speyside style and the heavily sherried influence of their core rage. The Macallan has been creating single malt whisky for so long at such a high volume and such a high level that they have what sports teams call a very deep bench. Their incredible inventory of rare, aging single malt gives them the ability to pinpoint flavors and special editions for the refined whisky palate that satisfy a huge, global following.
