Whiskey is only as good as the ingredients. Jameson Irish Whiskey is made with three key ingredients: water, barley, and maize.

Water
Great whiskey starts with the water, and Jameson's life source is the Dungourney River, which flows through the Midleton distillery and plays a vital role in the production process.

Barley
Jameson is one of a handful of whiskeys in the world produced using a combination of malted and unmalted barley. The barley comes from farms located within 100 miles of the Jameson distillery, many of which have produced barley for centuries. The use of unmalted barley is a long-standing Irish tradition and one which Jameson continues, believing it contributes to the smooth characteristics of the whiskey.

Maize
And though Jameson aims to keep ingredients sourced as locally as possible, maize is a sun-loving crop. Since Ireland isn't particularly well known for sunshine, Jameson uses non-genetically modified maize from the Bayonne region in the south of France.

Charring is an age-old method for invigorating barrels to intensify the taste. Jameson Black Barrel is our tribute to our coopers, who painstakingly give their bourbon barrels an additional charring to reveal their untold richness and complexity. Matured for 18 years in hand-selected oak casks from Europe and America, this rare whiskey is finished in first-fill bourbon barrels. This rite of passage introduces subtle traces of vanilla to an exceptionally balanced, mellow whiskey with a lingering finale of wood, spice and toffee. An elder statesman of our portfolio, each bottle of this unique whiskey is individually numbered.

TASTING CHARACTERISTICS

We had a hunch that a zesty IPA would be the perfect partner for our whiskey, so we loaned barrels to our drinking buddies to make a Jameson-seasoned IPA. The beer-soaked barrels returned to the distillery full of new crisp, hoppy notes. We re-filled them with Jameson, and the wait began. Our signature smoothness is still there, but now thanks to the IPA itll be rubbing shoulders light hints of hops, fresh citrus and floral notes.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more iconic name in the Irish whiskey world than "Jameson." The Jameson tradition dates all the way back to 1740, when John Jameson was born into a family whose motto, "Sine Metu" ("Without Fear"), was earned through the family's courage in fighting pirates on the high seas during the 1500s. John Jameson himself was a living embodiment of Sine Metu, and his ancestors' bravery inspired in John a boldness that led him not only to open his own distillery in the latter 18th century but also to pioneer the technique of triple-distilling whiskey now the gold standard in the Irish whiskey industry. John Jameson lived to be 83 an impressive feat for someone born in the 18th century and his descendants John II, John III, and John IV all honored his legacy by leading the distillery well into the 20th century. Jameson Irish Whiskey is crafted from a mash of malted and unmalted barley that is triple-distilled just as it was by John Jameson himself centuries ago through three separate copper-pot stills: a wash still, a feint still and, finally, a spirit still. The mash itself is made using barley, maize and pure Irish water, further adding to the unique character of the whiskey. Jameson Bow Street 18 Years is a special blend of rare pot still and grain Irish whiskeys produced at the Midleton distillery. After maturing for almost two decades, these whiskeys are married together, before being finished at the Jameson Distillery Bow Street in Dublin. Launched in 2018, this whiskey is Jameson's rarest release and is bottled once per year, at cask strength.
